New License to Carry (LTC) applicants must have completed an approved firearms safety course. New Firearms Identification Card (FID) applicants must have completed an approved basic hunter safety course. Active and Reserve Military members do not need to complete the safety course but must bring a military ID at the time of their appointment. After completing the course, please call the Records Division at (413) 642-9374 to schedule an appointment. Appointments are scheduled Monday – Friday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.
At the time of your appointment you will be required to bring the safety course certificate and a valid MA drivers license or state ID (please be sure the RMV has your current address before your appointment). If born outside of the United States, you must bring your original Green Card or Certificate of Naturalization. Your fingerprints will also be taken at the time of your appointment.
Renewal appointments should be made 2 – 3 months before a current license expires. As long as the appointment is before a current LTC or FID’s expiration date, the grace period is indefinite. To schedule an appointment, please call the Records Division at (413) 642-9374. Appointments are scheduled Monday – Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. At the time of your appointment, you will be required to bring your current LTC or FID card and a valid MA drivers license or state id (please be sure the RMV has your current address before your appointment).
You no longer need to have a permit to carry mace/pepper spray at the age of 18.
- New or renewal LTC age 21-69 = $100.00
- Renewal LTC age 70+ = No charge
- New or renewal FID age 18-69=$100.00
- Renewal FID age 70+ = No charge
- New FID or LTC age 70+ = $100.00
- New FID age 15-17 = $25.00 (Guardian must be at the appointment)
